There It Is

As a 'try-to-be' gun writer, where is he coming from? You may ask. Certainly not much mystery there. Just an ol' boy that grew up in a very rural hunk of droughty ol' south Texas.

Back then (40s-50s) it was sparsley populated and seems a whole world of mesquite and cactus and other thorny desert type plants. Rivers and creeks to wander hunting adventure. Scratching around the bare dry ground where looked like once was a fire, I dug up the remains of an old 1892 lever action winchester. Wood all burned off many, many years ago. Well, you would have thought I had located the CROWN JEWELS!

I made a stock for the old rusty relic and stuck a short pipe in the reciever for a barrel.

Seems my folks took me to see a western movie or two quite often and old west guns really was my 'thing'! Also on the back of Zane Grey novels was a feature and picture of old west firearms. I studied them all I guess because dad used to read those novels.

Dad taught me very strictly on firearms safety. I was never impressed by gaudy guns and fast draw Lone Ranger/ Roy Rogers rigs. Although Clayton Moore and Roy Rogers were very fine human beings. They potrayed what 9 or 10 year old kids thought 'cowboys' should be.

Being from south Texas, I knew exactly what lawmen and cowboys looked like and acted like and the type leather/guns they packed. Time flys by, in the 60s to not long ago I found new HEROS ...of the literary kind that is. Charles A. Skelton a retire Deaf Smith county sheriff and former lawman in different capacites in the desert southwest. An avid Colt Single action collector and writer/editor for SHOOTIN' TIMES magazines for many years was the kind of lawman I grew up knowing. Then you have the one and only ELMER KEITH from Helena, Montana! The big cigar and that huge TOM MIX hat! The sure 'nuff bronc buster in his younger days. Elmer was a major developer of the S&W "Dirty Harry" 44 magnum!

BART SKELTON took the reins of gun writer when the beloved "Skeeter" (Charles) Skelton, his dad passed in the late '80s. Did a mighty fine story telling job.(Down on the Border} also! Now we have Sheriff JIM WILSON, an outstanding western singer and top notch gun writer! ANYHOW, this is where I am coming from...I know I'll NEVER get there but I am trying to do my part in preserving our GOD given RIGHT to KEEP and BEAR ARMS...

No need to recall the school tragedy of last month, the biased liberal media has played it up 24/7 every since for the sole purpose of helping push the socialist gun grab. First they have taken GOD out of schools at the most critical time children need to learn Christian ethic and faith. Schools have become hellholes of depravity. Where drugs, bullying and guns are common place. The shooter in the school incidence was a fine example of the present day school system. Take away GOD, you lose His protective hand.

It is impossible to get anything across to Liberals. The light of the Heavenly Father does not abide in them. They speak the exact words, march in lockstep to the old playbook that so many nations have started with ....and fell by the wayside with suffering and misery.

When the next doctor visit has a 'nurse' that fills out a medicare claim, asks if I have any guns. I'll inform her " It's still against the law to ask me that and if I did have any guns, I would not tell you."
